Get Involved

Join us for an uplifting and rewarding adventure in historic Romania! Learn about another culture while building houses and friendships on this 11-day journey of service and hope.

You are invited to join Jeff and Haley’s Global Village team to Romania from April 21-May 1, 2017.  This is a cause which we care deeply about and we know that this experience will be as meaningful for you as it will be for the community we’re serving!

During your 11-day Global Village trip, the team will be constructing an apartment building containing 15 flats and a vocational center that will house and serve vulnerable youth in Romania.

About Romania

Romania is a fascinating country–a place where medieval life meets modern times.  While visiting, you’ll discover a land with majestic, natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage, a thousand-year history, now entering the 21st century after 40 years under communism following WW2.  Romania is located in southeastern Europe, bordering the Black Sea, with a landscape broken by the Carpathian Mountains and Transylvanian Alps. Learn more about the cultural activities we’ll be doing in Romania.

About Habitat for Humanity Romania

Habitat for Humanity in Romania has taken up the challenge of ending poverty housing in its country.  Due to their efforts to date, more than 1,200 families in Romania, who previously lived in miserable conditions, have a safe and healthy home.  This work is critical because Romania’s population of 22 million consists of about 5 million living below the poverty line, 2 million of whom are children.  An even greater number of people live without access to running water, bathrooms, or showers.  For more information about Habitat for Humanity Romania, click here. Learn more about Habitat for Humanity in Medias: HFH Medias Handbook.

Type of Work

Some of the tasks include demolition, insulation, plastering, and painting. All tools and construction site materials will be provided by the affiliate, and a professional construction leader will always be present on site. No experience is required! This build is your next step with Habitat to make the world a better place. Learn more.

Program Cost & Fundraising

The cost for this trip is $1,900 USD. Airfare and entry/exit fees not included. That cost is tax-deductible in most cases.  About half of the cost covers your in-country expenses, and half is a donation to Habitat for Humanity’s work to build safe, decent housing. Learn more.

You may fundraise to help you pay for the trip.  Fundraising is as easy as telling your friends, family, and co-workers about why you build with Habitat for Humanity.  They may even ask to join the team! We set you up with a great website and coaching for success.

You can also share this cause with people in your network. By clicking on the “Share” buttons at the upper right of this page, you can share a link and information about this page on Facebook, Twitter other social media sites.

Meals, Accommodations & Activities

The team will stay in modest, comfortable hotels in double-occupancy rooms.  Lunch will be on the build site, while breakfast and dinner will be at the hotel or local restaurants.

After volunteering during the day, you will have free time in the evenings for excursions, relaxation, and reflection. During your days off, you will have various cultural experiences like visiting local markets, museums, and historic sites.
